VAGADU is an art-inspired clothing line by fashion designer Joui Turandot. Each Vagadu collection translates the creative process of a local artist into one-of-a-kind clothing made entirely from recycled fabric. Vagadu fashion shows are a freewheeling, multi-layered odyssey into the artist’s palate, featuring performers as models, live art and original works, serving an exquisite tasting menu reflecting the thematic sensibilities of the evening.
Joui Turandot has been making and designing clothes since she was ten. While the other girls were playing soccer, she played with the sewing machine. Artistic expression came naturally to Joui who follows in the footsteps of her grandfathers Jean Varda, the Sausalito collage artist, and Pancho Willmarth, who made his mark in the world of charicature. Joui blasted into the art scene in 2005 when her documentary “Yo Soy Asi,” (I Am Who I Am) about Chilean transgender prostitutes, screened all over the U.S. and Canada including Frameline's GLBT Film Festival and PBS's Frontline/World Rough Cut. Joui continues express her creative talents through many mediums; photography, video, collage, and textile. Joui currently works as a stylist for fashion shows, commercial, and print. She is also a wardrobe designer for film.To learn more about her current projects visit: www.jouistyle.com and www.jouiturandot.com
